NEW BOOK SPANS TWO DECADES OF TEXT, SOUND, AND IMAGE

bd-studios.com is pleased to announce the publication of float wiTch 浮遊, a new book by luke kurtis and a companion to a harras. It is the second title in the bd little books line of small, pocketable, experimental books. It will be published 16 October 2026.

float wiTch 浮遊 is a bookend to the a harras book, short film, and album. That multimedia project was followed earlier this year by the crossmyheart (a harras reworks) remix album, which featured a series of videos and the standalone single “float wiTch.” That single ultimately served as the visual and conceptual anchor for the float wiTch 浮遊 book, bringing the project full circle and back to the printed form where it began.

float wiTch 浮遊—like a harras before it—brings together a constellation of works spanning more than two decades: the 1999 visual poem wiTch, its 2026 Japanese translation, photograms and chemigrams created in 2001 and 2002, and video stills derived from when horses tread water (float wiTch), a video art piece created for crossmyheart (a harras reworks). Together, these materials trace the movement of works across language, image, sound, and time.

“If crossmyheart was a remix album in the more conventional sense, I see this book as just another version of remix,” says the artist. “So it’s more than documentation, it’s more than a collection of works put together in book form. It’s something new that stands alone, even though it’s made up of things from the past.”

The artist’s remix philosophy has evolved throughout this project, becoming both more expansive and more conceptual. “If ideas are central to what I’m doing—and they always have been—the work around it can change at any moment. So that’s ultimately what I’m exploring—how one idea can take many forms, literally morph into something else, and in turn generate new ideas. It’s not about aesthetics, or adhering to a particular style. It’s about documenting a way of thinking, where the process itself deepens that thinking. The thinking is what matters. Everything else is byproduct.”

Through translation, sampling, remix, and recontextualization, float wiTch 浮遊 explores how creative works continue to transform beyond their original forms. Extending the world of a harras while allowing it to drift beyond its boundaries, the book is not a conclusion but a release from gravity—a moment where familiar materials loosen, shift, and become something else entirely.

“While I may be thinking of this book as a closing gesture in a body of work that began years ago,” the artist muses, “I won’t be surprised if I find myself in the world of a harras again one day.”
