dokoropinku is an experimental text-based experience featuring Lolo and Pink Pig
This text-based experimental work by luke kurtis invites viewers into the world of Lolo and Pink Pig—miniature pig and armadillo characters he began crafting stories about in 2024, though this is the first time they have appeared in his work.
dokoropinku is the artist’s way of bringing this imagined world into a form others can experience. At times dreamlike and surreal, it invites viewers to spend time with the characters and follow them through a simple story.
Japanese is woven into the interface and its interactions, creating a world that can be encountered through partial understanding rather than requiring the viewer to comprehend everything they see.
The artist was inspired by the 1980s text-based adventure games he grew up playing on his TRS-80 Color Computer 2. But while those games asked players to give specific directions, dokoropinku asks something different: rather than directing the characters themselves, viewers direct their attention—where they look, what they touch, what they notice.
The story itself does not branch, and there is no way to win or lose. There is no score, timer, inventory, or challenge. Instead, viewers move through the story, with opportunities to linger and discover additional details, bits of text, and humor along the way.
The work provides words rather than images, leaving each viewer to construct the world in their own imagination.
